What versions of KnowHowDB exist?

KnowHowDB is used in a wide variety of different fields, so there are four user-specific versions available:

  • Home Edition 2008 (single user)
  • Business Edition 2008 (single user)
  • Professional Edition 2008 (multi-user)
  • Enterprise Edition 2008 (multi-user)

Home Edition

The Home Edition is the smallest version of KnowHowDB. It is aimed at private users who want to store information and images and subsequently retrieve them in an efficient manner.

The Home Edition contains many improvements over the previous version, KnowHowDB v3.4. For example, it displays categories in a list next to the tree structure, you can delete and move categories with content, an unlimited number of sub-categories are permitted, the text field can include links to graphics, etc. The following formats can be imported directly into KnowHowDB: .DOC, .RTF, .TXT, .HTML and .XML. 

Business Edition

The Business Edition is intended for private users with more demanding requirements, as well as business users.

The Business Edition contains all the functionality of the Home Edition, and is also a single-user version. However, it has the following additional benefits: headers and footers, document templates for new records, function to export .DOC and .RTF files, tables, text fields, frames, shading, and style sheets as in Microsoft Word.

Professional Edition

The Professional Edition is suitable for small teams in large companies, and for smaller enterprises with up to approximately 25 employees.

The Professional Edition has all the functionality of the Business Edition, but supports multiple users. Users and user groups can be defined, and each user logs on using their own personal login details. It is powered by an Access database. Extended import and export options are available for .HTML, .PDF and .XML file formats.

Enterprise Edition

The Enterprise Edition is particularly suitable for small and mid-sized enterprises, large companies with any number of employees, and also for smaller teams or small companies with demanding requirements.

This multi-user version also supports the definition of users and user groups. In contrast to the Professional version, the Enterprise Edition allows you to set authorizations at category and record level. This means that each category or record can be viewed or edited by particular departments or individuals. In practice, this provides significant benefits. For example, if a development only has read authorization for the ‘personnel department’ category, or if the team leader wants to publicize project progress, all those involved can see what’s happening, but cannot enter events themselves.

This version centres on an SQL database, ensuring high performance and an unlimited number of users. Alternatively, an Access database can be used. The history function ensures security at all times. It records all changes made, and can be used to reset records to any previous point in time.
